Ballad to beat bowel cancer
‘Tell Me It’s Not True’ is being released by Natalie Rushdie to raise money for the Bowelbabe fund in Dame Deborah James’ memory.
On Monday 3 July Natalie Rushdie will be releasing the charity single ‘Tell Me It’s Not True’, which she sang originally at Dame Deborah James’ funeral last year.
Natalie Rushdie is releasing the track in Dame Deborah James’ memory for the BowelBabe fund for Cancer Research UK.
The ballad features in the equally heart wrenching musical Blood Brothers by Willy Russell.
The video accompanying the charity release is as full of hope, life and humour as the words of Dame Deborah James herself:
“Find a life worth enjoying, take risks, love deeply, have no regrets and always, always have rebellious hope. And finally, check your poo — it could just save your life”
100% of the proceeds from this moving track will go to the Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK.
Dame Deborah became dear to the nation’s hearts after she was diagnosed with incurable bowel cancer in 2016 at the age of just 35.
She earned love and respect through social media and her blog BowelBabe.
Deborah sadly passed away on the 28th June 2022 at 40 years old.
Yet not without leaving an incredibly positive legacy.
In the years following her diagnosis, Deborah did all she could to raise awareness of bowel cancer and fundraise for vital research.
Natalie and Deborah met seven years ago and became even closer after both surviving Sepsis.
Natalie is making the recording at the request of Deborah’s parents Heather and Alistair.
Natalie Rushdie said:
“The last time I saw Deborah, about a week before she died, she asked me to sing ‘Tell Me It’s Not True’ at her funeral. It was one of the hardest and most emotional performances I’ve ever had to do. I miss her voice, her vibrancy for life, her dancing, her constant support and our friendship but I know somewhere she will be dancing to her song. I am honoured to sing and record this beautiful track in Deborah’s name and I hope the public get behind us to support this wonderful project.”
It has been recorded at the world-famous Studio 2 of Abbey Road Studios, with the accompaniment of 25 musicians and has the full support of the writer Willy Russell.
To support Bowelbabe you can purchase this single available on Monday 3 July 2023 from all major streaming and download platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon Music, TikTok, Deezer, YouTube and more.
To date the Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK has raised over £11.3 million.
