It has been reported that the Home Office will launch a major operation to detain asylum seekers across Britain, earlier than expected, in preparation for their deportation to Rwanda.

A refugee is a person fleeing a well founded fear of persecution.

They are coming here in desperation.

We are not being invaded.

They have come to us for help.

We are making ourselves into a force as ugly as their persecutors.

All in the name of what?

Certainly not freedom, not justice, not humanitarianism.

To my mind this is in contravention to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights set up after the Third Reich tore through Europe to present a climate so that such a thing, could never, ever happen again.

They say when someone mentions Hitler they lose the argument.

Yet how can I not compare this to the actions of the Third Reich!

This country is demonising the marginalised and our government has not stopped there, they are persecuting them themselves.

I feel ashamed even though these actions are not of my making.

This country once stood against fascism at the cost of many lives.

Why have we become so cold hearted that we now turn the desperate away at our door?

The Refugee Council is a charity campaigning for refugee rights within the UK if you would like to give at this time.
