Please don’t bother with American Night
If this is the best Neo-Noir has to offer it is a film genre set to die
A cast list I knew and great visuals draw me to this film. However, this film is terrible, saved only by the inclusion of a few great actors (Johnathan Rhys Meyers, Michael Madsen and Jeremy Piven) delivering below average lines.
American Night is neo-noir set in New York City’s corrupt contemporary art world. After the theft of Warhol’s ‘Marilyn’, a series of unexpected events turns an art dealer’s life upside down.
It is barely plausible, watching a superhero movie would be more believable than this.
The ending is unexpected, but that is really all you can say for this brash, childlike film.
It doesn’t seem to know if it has its tongue in its cheek or is taking itself seriously.
As it is neither fully serious nor fully ridiculous it fails on both counts.
There are some ok moments to enjoy, but despite the fast paced action you may find yourself switching off.
American Night is coming to Digital Download from 7 February.
