Fight, for your right, to drink… Tap water(!)

All restaurants in England and Wales serving alcohol are legally required to give you free tap water…

Although free tap water is often given out in restaurants, it is only a legal requirement to serve tap water in establishments that serve alcohol.

However, it is a bit mealy mouthed to refuse it within this larger context.

Thus my fight with the server at Indi.go in Westfields.

I ordered food, which incidentally was delicious, but was refused tap water on direct request.

This raised my heckles a bit and I argued that it was a legal requirement to give me tap water.

I was informed that this was not the case, but being incompletely informed I took it up with her manager.

Her manager apologised, but did not offer me any tap water.

Let’s put aside that water is not the best thing to drink with spicy food and look at the principle.

I also mentioned to her manager, also incidentally a woman, the proliferation of free water points across London to show an indication of the spirit of the law.

So while I was proved wrong on the point of law, I believe I am right on the point of principle.

Fight for your right to tap water, it is great stuff, don’t let the mineral water industry fool you…
