This eccentric Greek comedy starts off with promise and maintains some very sweet performances. However, it can not quite deliver the belly laughs that a comedy should.

It may make you smile and warm to our two hapless heroes Christos (Michalis Sarantis) and Antonis (Makis Papadimitriou), but if you’ve had a bad week it may fail to cheer you up.

Our heroes are down on their luck, disconnected from modern society and surviving mainly on Christos’ unemployment benefit.

They are united by their common, platonic love interest, Laura Durand, a porn star of the ’90s who disappeared mysteriously years before. As the friends’ lives become still worse, they decide to chase the lost Laura Durand.

Ultimately comedy should tickle you even in the worst mood and if you are really down in the dumps, this may fail to even make you un-frown.

After being so damning I will add that it is warm and has a solid, though unconventional plot. Also the two leads are clearly consummate actors, but the film as a whole is nothing to write home about.

It has moments that are truly touching and fun, but as a whole piece there are not enough of these moments of brilliance.

If you have time on your hands by all means check it out, but don’t expect the world and you may smile a few times.

In The Strange Pursuit of Laura Durand is available on Digital Download from 31st January.
